    About the Amazon FBA Calculator

Amazon FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon) allows sellers to ship products to Amazon's warehouses and let Amazon handle storage, packing, shipping, returns, and customer service. In exchange, Amazon charges fees that sellers must carefully account for to ensure they're running a profitable business — not just generating revenue.

The two primary FBA fees: Referral fees are percentage-based, charged on the total sale price. Most categories: 15%. Electronics: 8%. Clothing: 17%. Books: 15%. These are deducted from every sale. Fulfillment fees are flat fees per unit, based on weight and dimensions: a standard-size item under 1 lb costs $3.06–$3.48. Heavy-and-bulky items can cost $10–$20+ per unit. These fees cover pick, pack, and ship.

Profitable FBA product criteria: Net margin ≥ 30% after ALL fees. ROI on cost of goods ≥ 100% (meaning you profit at least as much as your cost). Units under 1 lb (to minimize fulfillment fees). Priced $15–$70 (sweet spot for impulse purchase behavior). Year-round demand with minimal seasonal storage fee exposure.

Hidden costs that kill FBA profits: PPC advertising (typically 15–30% of revenue for new products), returns (2–10% depending on category), long-term storage fees ($6.90/cu ft after 365 days), inbound shipping to Amazon, product photography, and testing/quality control. New sellers routinely forget one or more of these, calculating gross margins instead of true net margins.

The FBA competitive landscape has become more difficult since 2020 — more sellers compete for the same keywords, and PPC costs have risen significantly. Successful FBA sellers in 2025 focus on differentiated products (private label with unique features), brand building (Amazon Brand Registry, A+ content), and diversification across platforms (their own website, Walmart Marketplace).

    Formula Used
Profit = Sale Price − COGS − Referral Fee − FBA Fulfillment Fee

Referral fee is a percentage of the sale price (8–20% depending on category). FBA fulfillment fee covers pick, pack, and ship — based on product weight and size. Target a minimum 30% net margin and 100% ROI on COGS for a healthy FBA business. Include storage fees for seasonal products.

    Example Calculations

    $29.99 sale · $7 COGS · 0.5 lb · Electronics (8%)

    Referral $2.40 · FBA $3.15 · Profit ~$17.44 · 58% margin

    $19.99 sale · $5 COGS · 0.25 lb · Home (15%)

    Referral $3.00 · FBA $3.06 · Profit ~$8.93 · 45% margin

    $49.99 sale · $15 COGS · 2 lb · Clothing (17%)

    Referral $8.50 · FBA $4.75 · Profit ~$21.74 · 43% margin
